On August 11, 2013, Chase and I were celebrating our second wedding anniversary. I was REALLY pregnant and REALLLY uncomfortable. I had my 39 week appointment scheduled for that morning because Chase would be gone at work and what better way to spend our anniversary then checking on little babes heartbeat?! My sweet mother was in town because I had my Utah baby shower that Saturday before so off we went..
We decided to skip on lunch and just grab something after my appointment so we wouldn't be late (I tell you that information because it comes into play later) We got to the hospital and little did I know the next time I would be leaving that place we would have our sweet Kenzie in the backseat snuggled in her carseat.
Dr. Hebert called me back and the nurse first started with my vitals.. She told me my blood pressure was a bit high but that we would recheck it in a little bit just because nerves sometimes bump up those numbers. We took it AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN. Dr. Hebert told me I could be experiencing some pre eclampsia and maybe she would just induce me today. (EXCUSE ME? WHAT?) Of course, a million and fifty emotions were going through my head that minute. Is our baby really coming today? Am I ready to have a baby? Is everything ready at home? I don't even have my bag that I have had ready for like 2 months now. Where is Chase? Crap. I need to call Chase.
Of course, trying to hold back tears (of joy) I called Chase and told him the news. "I'm not sure if we are having this baby but I think we are having this baby. I will call you in a bit but I think THIS IS IT. Dr. Hebert set me down to Labor & Delivery to run a few test because if it was pre eclampsia it was the safest for both Kenzie & me to just get my labor started.
I took LOTS of test and my sweet nurse told me it would take about an hour to get results and then Dr. Hebert would decide what course of action she wanted to take. I called Chase and told him to grab my bags and get on the road.
FUNNY STORY: My hospital is about an hour away from our house (I know, Chase has told me a million times that I was crazy) and we (Chase) always thought that my water would break and we would have to speed to the hospital and basically I would go into labor and deliver Kenzie on the freeway. HA so thank heavens that wasn't the case.
ANYWAYS what feels like forever went by and the nurse came into the room and said "Okay, Dr. Hebert wants to induce you." (Again, EXCUSE ME? WHAT) They started me on pitocin and a resident was in the room within minutes to break my water. (5:30PM)
I never experienced any kind of braxton hicks so I didn't really know what to expect when the contractions came on. But boy, was I in for it. The contractions came on really fast and pretty dang close together. Epidural anyone?
After the anesthesiologist came in I was ONE. HAPPY. GIRL. That thing worked like a charm and I was able to keep my blood pressure down since I was (mostly) pain free.
Within minutes of breaking my water my dad, brother and sister were on a plane coming to see us! (BEST FAMILY EVER?!) All of Chase's family was on their way to the hospital when they found out the news (besides his dad, who was boarding a plane for Boston. SO SAD.) We had many visitors come see us throughout the night and keep us company. Most everyone, stayed in the waiting room throughout the night waiting for sweet Kenzie's arrival (Once again, BEST FAMILY EVER?!)
Things started to get a little intense so everyone left the room and it was only Chase and me. Those were probably the most precious moments to me. We were able to bond and talk all about our little girl that was about to make her grand entrance.
PS Once they brake your water you can't eat anything besides jello and flavored ice chips and remember when I said my mom and I were going to grab lunch after my appointment and remember how that never happened? I WAS STARVING. My sweet husband fed me ice chips all night long to help A LITTLE.
At about 11:30PM I WAS dilated to a TEN! YAY! Or no, because that cute little girl was posterior and they wanted her to flip naturally since I dilated so fast. Fine. I was able to rest and see some visitors while she did her thang. At about 2:30AM the epidural started to wear off and I was really uncomfortable and definitely feeling the urge to push.
I pushed and PUSHED AND PUSHED AND PUSHED AND PUSHED AND PUSHED. (x100, literally) I was really tired and really defeated because my little girl was just so comfortable up there.
At 5AM Dr. Hebert (best person in the world) put her gloves on and geared up so I knew it was time. Barely being able to keep my eyes open, I pushed a couple more times REALLY hard and at 5:26AM Kenzie Marie Deushane was finally here. We were instantly so in love. Holding that sweet tiny precious baby girl in my arms for the first time was a moment I will hold onto for forever.
I am so thankful for all of our family that could be there to experience this beautiful moment with us, and a special thanks to my husband who was the best cheerleader/ birth coach that ever did exist.
